In case Google wants anything (like there is some issue with your account or such) it will always send an email from a @google.com account and not a bogus, free to set up @gmail.com account. Then they never ask you to send anything online but link to a secure google.com page where you can take action.
Why would they ask for your age for instance? When setting up your gmail account, you had to fill that field in anyway!
